Brief Notes on CPC RFE Based on Cold Clouds Duration (CCD) Additional information from AMSU/B & SSMI WMO GTS observations Traditional statistical interpolations Error correction for GTS observed data 500 – 1000 stations are used from GTS Limited coverage on stations, e.g. In Somalia no GTS data

Conclusion Due to absence of ground observations in Somalia, poor correlations between the two data sets is observed RFE can pick regional rainfall patterns with good accuracy and limited at local scale (station) Total misbehavior near the coast High correlations observed when rainfall is mainly convective (Funk et al, 2003) Recalibration of hydrologic models when model results compared with ground observations results (Artan, et al 2007) Way –Forward: Observed dataset is limited; SWALIM started re- establishing of the network with incorporation of some automatic stations
