I. The Korean Conflict A. After WWII, Japanese in the North surrendered to the USSR B. Japanese in the South surrendered to the US C. Dividing line – 38 th Parallel

D – US and Soviets agreed to pull out E. June 25, 1950 – North Koreans attack across the 38 th F. Truman decided to use CONTAINMENT – UN agrees

► Douglas MacArthur placed in charge of the UN forces in the south ► September 1950 – N. Koreans control most of the peninsula ► MacArthur uses surprise attack of Inchon – Allied victory

II. China Gets Involved A. N. Koreans had been driven back B. War going well for the south until... C. Chinese pour across the border to help the North D. Stalemate at the 38 th parrallel
