Dilations A dilation is a transformation that changes the size but not the shape of an object or figure. Every dilation has a fixed point that is called.

A dilation is when the figure either gets larger (enlargement) or smaller (reduction). =

A translation is when a figure moves right, left or up & down on the coordinate grid.

Enlargement- When the figures original dimensions enlarge. ( Get bigger ) Reduction- When the figures original dimensions reduce. ( Get smaller)

A reflection is when it flips over the x or y axis. It’s like a mirror image.

 Scale factor is what you multiply by to get from your original figure to the new figure.  The scale factor is great than 1 if it is a enlargement.  The scale factor is less than 1 if it is reduction.

TThe perimeter is affected the same way as the scale factor. If the scale factor is 3 the perimeter will be 3 times the size of the original figure.

To find the change of the area you find the area of both figures and divide the new area by the original area.
