2 D ILATIONS Dilation is changing the figures shape by enlargement or reduction. The dilation depends on the scale factor. If the scale factor is greater than one, it is an enlargement. If it’s less than one it is a reduction.

3 T RANSLATIONS Is translation is a movement on a coordinate grid. It also means to slide. You can translate a figure left, right, up, or down on the coordinate grid.

4 R EFLECTION A reflection is changing the figures points on the coordinate grid to their opposite. It depends on which axis you reflect over. If you reflect over x-axis the coordinate for the x-axis will be its opposite. Ex. (1,2) it will then be (-1,2). If you reflect over y-axis the coordinate for the y-axis will be its opposite. Ex. (1,2) it will then be (1,-2)

5 E NLARGEMENT VS. R EDUCTION Enlargement and reduction depend on scale factor. If the scale factor is greater than one, it will be an enlargement. If the scale factor is less than one, it will be a reduction. A enlargement is making the figure larger than its original. A reduction is making the figure smaller than its original.

6 H OW PERIMETER IS AFFECTED. How the perimeter is affected will always be the same as the scale. So if the scale factor is 6 then the perimeter will be 6 times larger.

7 H OW THE AREA IS AFFECTED. You just square the scale factor. If the scale factor. Ex. Scale factor of 3. 3x3=9. Area is 9 times larger.
