Percent Review Mrs. Leuschen Part/Whole/Percent Equations

Percent The main equation to find a percent is: Percent x whole = part Or, it can look like a proportion: Part = Percent (%) Whole 100 You can use either one for all types of questions. You just have to know what is the percent, the whole, and the part.

Percent 60% of 50 is what number? 60% = percent Of = multiply 50 = whole Is = equals ? = part If you have the percent and the whole, change the percent to a decimal and multiply. If you are missing either the percent or the whole, you will have to divide.

Percent How do you multiply? 60% of 50 is what? 1. Get rid of the % and move the imaginary decimal two places to the left: 60% = Multiply the two numbers: 0.60 x 50 = 30

Percent Well, that was easy, how do you divide? 60% of what number is 48? If you do not know the percent (%) or the whole number, then we use proportions to solve the problem. Remember, the equation: Part = Percent Whole 100 So, we know the % (60) and we know the part (48) – Remember, the part comes before or after the word, is… Here is the new equation: 48 = 60 ? 100
