5 Steps to the Planning Process 1. Identify CONCERNS 2. Set a GOAL 3. Form a PLAN 4. ACT 5. Follow UP

The circle represents a continuous flow of ideas that has no beginning or end. As a target, it symbolizes zeroing in on one idea around which to build a project. Identify in your internship sites concerns related to parent relationships, communication, and/or involvement. Narrow to top 3 concerns.

The arrow stands for deciding the direction that your chapter will take. It points toward the goal or end result. Establish a clear mental picture of what needs to be accomplished. Make sure it is something that can be achieved and evaluated. Select one concern around which to develop your project. Write your goal for the project.

The square represents the coming together of ideas The who, what, where, when, and how of your plan. Develop a plan for a way to achieve the goal. Decide what needs to be done, and figure out the details. WHO will do what, and how will they be recognized? WHAT activity or event will take place? WHEN will it happen, and is the timetable realistic? WHERE will it take place in class, out of class, other location? HOW will it happen? How will possible barriers and alternatives be handled? HOW MUCH will it cost? What is the budget? WHAT RESOURCES people, products, places, time — will be required? HOW will results be evaluated?

The squares in this symbol represent the activities to be carried out It represents acting on the plan. Use available resources, and don’t be afraid to try something new. Evaluate along the way. If the plan isn’t working, try something else. Mistakes are part of tackling the unknown. Everybody, no matter how well planned their activities or how involved their members, will experience both successes and failures. Use available resources to carry out your plan.

The broken squares suggest examining the project piece by piece. This symbol also represents a “window” through which to view and evaluate the plan. Through ongoing evaluation, you will know if your plan is on target, or if a new plan is needed. What worked? What did not work? Learn from failures as well as successes. If the project does not succeed, discussing the problems can help relieve frustrations and pave the way for future success. Follow-up also includes giving recognition Evaluate how well the completed project met your stated goal. Identify what worked well and what needs improvement.

FCCLA Planning Process Project

We have an active Early Childhood class, but we don’t feel that everyone in our school knows what ECE is all about.

We need _______________________ to help increase our visibility in the school. To recruit _______ NEW students in the Fall 2010 Recruitment can include: Posters Signs classroom presentations  Going to classrooms, middle school, etc any other ideas are welcomed

Who: Recruitment committee (ECE II) What: Create ten posters about ECE to remind students to sign up for ECE Utilize school announcements Handing out “invitations” to students who are eligible to join. Got any cute ideas???? Show FACS Recruitment video to CHS and SMS Already at SMS We could for a team or group to create a iMovie or iPhoto just for ECE…we only have one for FACS—all of our courses we teach.

Con’t…. Where: The posters will be placed in the halls Announcements will be on TV’s around CHS. ECE II students can pass out “invitations” VIDEO on TV Monitors around CHS & SMS

When: The ECE class will create posters within 7 days. Posters will be placed around school one week before registration begins. Announcements, video/photos, classroom presentations, invitations will begin one week prior to registration.

Con’t… Why: We believe that ECE is _____________________________________________________. We want more CHS students to register for ECE class. How: The posters will be created on a computer to make them look professional. The ECE class will need to designate a time to plan the classroom presentations, school announcements, invitations, video/photos.

The posters were created and placed throughout the school on time. Announcements were made and invitations were given to interested students. Next year we will plan on ______________________________________ _____________________________________.
