Habit 1 : Be proactive Habit 2 : Begin with the end in mind Habit 3 : Put first things first Habit 4 : Think win-win Habit 5 : Seek first to understand, then to be understood Habit 6 : Synergize Habit 7 : Sharpen the saw The 7 habits can help you: 1. Get control of your life 2. Improve your relationships 3. Increase your self confidence 4. Be happy!

 Last meeting we talked about Habit #1. Be Proactive

 Reactive people make choices based on feelings, moods and emotions. Reactive Model A C T I O N Self - awareness Imagination Freedom to Choose Conscience Independent Will

 Self-awareness  Conscience  Imagination  Willpower I can stand apart from myself and observe my thoughts and actions. I can listen to my inner voice to know right from wrong. I can envision new possibilities. I have the power to choose.

1. Know what they stand for and have a strong set of values. 2. Listen to their “better” selves. 3. Realize they have choices and take responsibility for those choices. 4. Bounce back when something bad happens in their lives. 5. Always look at all the options. 6. Focus on things they can do something about, don’t worry about the other things.

 OURSELVES “ Things we can do nothing about should never interfere with the things we can do a great deal about.” - John Woodon People have the power to make their own decisions and focus on things they can control. Proactive people focus on their four human gifts and concentrate on the things they can control. By doing so, the experience inner peace and gain more control of their lives.

Begin with the end in mind

 Define your mission and goals in life.  Effective people shape their own future with their personal mission statement as their guide.

 What crossroads are you at in your life? Following are some common questions: 1. Will I continue seeing one person or do I want to start dating others? 2. Do I want to go to college or work right after high school? Think of some crossroads you may encounter in the next few weeks or months. Share this with your group.

 What qualities do I want to develop in myself?  What contributions do I want to make to others and my community?  What kind of things will I need to have for the kind of future I want?

 You must know where you want to go, who you want to be, and what you want to achieve in life.  You need a mission statement.  A mission statement is a personal credo or motto that states what your life is about.

 To help clarify what you want your mission to be, complete The Great Discovery activity on the next few slides.

 1. Think of a person who made a positive difference in your life. What qualities does that person have that you would like to develop?  Imagine 20 years from now – you are surrounded by the most important people in your life. Who are they and what are you ding?

 3. If a steel beam were placed across two skyscrapers, for what would you be willing to cross? A thousand dollars? A million? Your pet? Your brother? Fame? Think carefully…  4. If you could spend one day in a great library studying anything you wanted, what would you study?

 5. List 10 things you love to do. It could be singing, dancing, looking at magazines, drawing, reading, daydreaming – anything you absolutely love to do!  6. If you could spend an hour with any person who ever lived, who would that be? Why that person? What would you ask?

 Good with numbers  Good with words  Creative thinking  Athletics  Making things happen  Sensing needs  Mechanical  Artistic  Singing  Humorous  Sharing  Working well with people  Memorizing things  Predicting what will happen  Decision making  Accepting others  Speaking  Writing  Dancing  Listening  Music  Trivia Everyone has one or more talents, Which of the ones above are you good at? Or write down the ones not listed.

 Over the next week, create your own Mission Statement.  Don’t worry if your mission statement is not perfect. Work on it over the next few weeks – add more ideas if you want. Develop your mission statement until it is something you are proud of.  Once you’ve got it, put it where you can read it often.
