Vocational Ethics Classroom Instruction  Specific Vocational Ethics: Each week students will focus on a new vocational ethic (respect, efficiency, self-direction, communication, etc.). They are given a worksheet to complete utilizing the information that they receive in the class. They are then assigned an application project in which they are expected to apply the information learned during their vocational lab time. Specific Vocational Ethics  Occupational Safety: Students will become aware of safety hazards that they could encounter while working in a wide range of jobs and learn strategies for protecting themselves. Occupational Safety  General Vocational Topics: Students will receive instruction on a vocational topic. Topics covered include: preparing a resume, applying and interviewing for a job, Sabbath issues and tithing, problem solving, embracing diversity, legal requirements, etc. General Vocational Topics  Group Discussion: This class is conducted using a discussion group model. As a class, students and teacher discuss work related issues, practice vocational skills, identify strengths and weaknesses, and set vocationally related goals. Group Discussion

Vocational Ethic Lab  Vocational ethics labs are conducted in the following Positions of Study (POS): Agriculture, Custodial Services, Food Service, Grounds & Maintenance, Industrial Ed.  The primary focus is on developing vocational ethics in a wide range of circumstances, thus students rotate quarterly through various instruction sites. Students who have performed poorly in one POS may be rotated back and given another opportunity to succeed in that location during the 4 th quarter. Students are given opportunities to learn and to perform a variety of basic skills in each instructional location, and their progress is tracked according to the relevant Pennsylvania standards for each POS.

Vocational Skills  Vocational Skills (VS) courses are advanced vocational classes in which the primary focus is on learning and practicing the various skills necessary for a specific vocation. Although most courses are designed to take 1 year to complete, a few require two to three years. To be eligible to enroll in a VS class, students must meet the following requirements:  Must have passed Vocational Ethics Class (or equivalent course) with at least a 70% average.  Must have passed Vocational Ethics Lab (or equivalent course) with at least a 70% average.  Must be at Level 3 or above on Registration Day.  Must know and consistently practice good vocational ethics.

Vocational Leadership Many of the POS’s offer a leadership certificate. Students who choose to pursue the leadership certificate are provided with opportunities to learn and practice leadership skills that will significantly improve their ability to serve in future occupations. Students interested in receiving this certification must have met the following prerequisites:  Must have previously taken and passed Intro to Leadership/Principles of Leadership or students may take this class concurrently.  Must have maintained Level 4 status and received performance evaluation scores of not less than 86% for at least the previous quarter.  Receive a recommendation from their previous Vocational Skills Instructor.  Be accepted into a POS approved to facilitate Vocational Leadership Certification.
