Government Agencies Federal Agencies  FSIS: Food Safety and Inspection Service  FDA: Food and Drug Administration  APHIS: Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service  EPA: Environmental Protection Agency State Agencies  Regulate safety and create food codes Local Health Departments  Responsible for enforcing state codes, administering safety exams, issue permits, inspect food service businesses and investigate reports of food borne illness
