2 World Health Organization (WHO) An international agency sponsored by the United Nations; complies statistics and information on disease, publishes health information, and investigates and addresses serious health problems throughout the world EBOLA

3 U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (USSDHHS) A national agency that deals with the health problems in the United States www.hhs.gov

4 National Institutes of Health (NIH) A division of the USDHHS involved in research on diseases www. nih.gov

5 Health Departments Provide health services as directed by USDHHS; also provide specific services needed by the state and local community; examples of services include immunizations, inspections for sanitation, communicable disease control, collection of statistics and records related to health, health education, clinics for health care and prevention, and other services needed in the community.

6 Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Another division of the USDHHS concerned with the cause, spread, and control of diseases in a population www.cdc.gov

7 Food and Drug Administration (FDA) A federal agency responsible for regulating food and drug products sold to the public. www.fda.gov

8 Occupational Safety and Health Adminstration (OSHA) Establishes and enforces standards that protect workers from job-related injuries and illnesses www.osha.gov

9 Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) Established in 1988 Establishes standards, regulations, and performance requirements based on the complexity of a test and the risk factors associated with incorrect results. The purpose is to ensure quality laboratory testing Any medical laboratory or physician’s office that performs tests on humans is regulated by CLIA

10 International Organization for Standardization (ISO) ISO is a voluntary organization whose members are recognized authorities on standards, each one representing one country. Members meet annually at a General Assembly to discuss ISO's strategic objectives A Council with a rotating membership of 20 member bodies provides guidance and governance.
