2 What is Social Media Marketing?  Social media marketing refers to the process of gaining traffic or attention through social media sites

3 So How do we Promote FCS?  Simply by finding social media sites to gain traffic or attention from our audience.

7 iTunesU  With iTunes U, it easy for anyone anywhere to experience the college through a variety of multimedia content.  A powerful and simple podcast distribution environment.  It enables everyone to hear and see faculty, staff and students from the college community.  One can also virtually experience public events, special productions, and lectures that they might not have been able to attend.  Through iTunes U, one can have access to a wide range of college-related audio and video content via the iTunes Store.  UMD also uses this media

8 Flickr  An image and video hosting website.  Students as bloggers are able to share and embed photographs within their blogs.  This is also an active medium used by UMD to promote itself.

9 Vimeo  a video-sharing website on which the university’s students themselves can upload, share and view videos.  Hence it gives them also the opportunity to upload content on their university’s site.  Currently being used by UMD

10 YouTube  The FCS can make its presence on YouTube by uploading videos introducing its program of computer science.  It can also have featured playlists which include videos on its courses, student projects, student teams and profiles, latest student research and so on.  Currently being used by UMD, University of Michigan

11 Twitter  Currently being used by University of Michigan, UMD

12 Facebook  FCS should also make its Facebook page more active by uploading the most recent events related to the department, student related news, students’ achievements.  This way the group’s members can stay updated.  Currently being used by University of Michigan, UMD

13 LinkedIn  Currently being used by University of Michigan

14 RSS Feeds  A method of distributing links to content in your web site that you'd like others to use  it's a mechanism to "syndicate" your content.  Currently being used by University of Michigan, UMD
