Index Card Info  On the first index card you will write the phrase “Push Factors” and come up with the definition as a group  On the second index card you will write the phrase “Pull Factors” and come up with the definition as a group  As a group you will then sort the index cards and place them where they belong under push or pull factors, it is possible for an answer to be both a push and pull factor

7. Eight Top Push and Pull Factors 1. Jobs 2. Geography/climate 3. Nature resources 4. Food shortages 5. Land 6. Trade/global access 7. Politics/ persecution 8. Diseases/outbreaks

8. Class discussion  One person from each group will read one of the eight listed reason and determine if it is a push or pull factor.  The other groups will be asked if they agree or disagree as to weather or not that is the correct factor if you disagree they must be able to explain why

Think-Pair-Share  Take 3-5 minutes to think about the following question independently take notes on your thoughts and be prepared to share it with your partner  Which of these push and pull factors do you think still occur today and which ones do you think no longer occur?  If you and your partner disagree on something you are tasked to come up with a common/shared answer.

10. Class Work/ Home Work  Your task:  Write a diary entry as an immigrant coming to American  Include the following  The country you came from  Your name  One push factor  One pull factor  Why you choose America

Immigration Push and Pull Factors Push Factors  Push factors are the circumstances a country have that make a person want to leave.  Don’t have a job?  Treated badly by your government?  Lose all of your crops in a drought?  These kinds of problems can cause people to look for a better life somewhere else. Pull Factors  Pull factors are the advantages a country has that make a person want to come and live there.  America has huge pull factors for many people around the world.  Who live with unstable governments, few job opportunities, and no reliable security.
