2 Responsibilities vary between professional and educational theatres  On the Team  Lighting Designer  Assistant Lighting Designer  Master Electrician  Electricians  Possible Scenographic Designer  Scenographic designer: designer responsible for the entire artistic look (scenery, costumes, lighting, properties) of a production

3 RResponsible for: DDesigns CCan draw or paint sketches that show results WWYSIWYG or other Previz IInstallation PProduces a light plot AAlso produces the lighting sectional CCompiles the instrument schedule or hookup sheet OOperation HHow the light board will be programmed and operated NNot the actual day to day operation of the light board

4  Divided into several Subcategories  Assistant to the Lighting Designer  General Assistant  Draw any or all of the associated paperwork  Assistant Lighting Designer  Similar to above but the Assistant Designer can actually make minor design decisions or substitute for the Lighting Designer in their absence  Associate Lighting Designer  Performs all duties of a lighting designer while under the artistic direction of a more senior designer

5  Implements the lighting design:  Acquisition  Installation  Maintenance of all equipment  Supervision of crews who hang, focus, and run equipment during the show  Hanging  Circuiting  Very Important position:  Make sure design is implemented according to the vision of the lighting designer  Maintaining that look

6  Hanging  On appropriate pipes, booms and other locations  Focusing  Running

7  Producer  Director  Scenic Designer  Costume Designer  Lighting Designer  Sound Designer

8  Instrument schedule or hookup sheet: form used to record all of the technical data about each instrument used in the production See Figure 2.3, page 17  Boom: A vertical pipe (usually movable) with a heavy base that holds lighting instruments or equipment
