2 The Objective To learn the value of all types of musical notes within a musical piece To learn how to write the musical notes within a musical piece also known as working on musical penmanship To learn how to separate each note within a measure as well as keeping the amount given within the musical time signature To analyze how many notes can equal to the amount of another To understand that knowing the note values will help someone read, write as compose music

3 The Grand Staff All notes are placed on both parts of the grand staff which are also known as the musical lines. Although the values primarily depend on the time signature, most people commonly use 4/4.

4 Whole Values Whole Note (sound) Whole Rest (silence)
One Whole note consist of four beats within a measure One Whole rest consist of four beats within a measure

5 Half Values Half Note (sound) Half rest (silence)
One half note consist of two beats within a measure One half rest consist of two beats within a measure

6 Quarter Rest (silence)
Quarter Values Quarter Note (sound) Quarter Rest (silence) One quarter note consist of one beat within a measure One quarter rest consist of one beat within a measure

7 Eighth Values Eighth Note (sound) Eighth Rest (silence)

A sixteenth note is 1/16 of a beat within a measure A sixteenth rest is 1/16 of a beat within a measure

9 Thirty-Second Values Thirty-Second Note (sound)
Thirty-Second Rest (silence) A thirty-second note is 1/32 of a beat within a measure. A thirty-second rest is 1/32 of a beat within a measure.
