11 # Main Idea In the conversation, B is surprised to learn that A, a Westerner, should be a Beijing Opera fan. A expressed his love of Beijing Opera and also talked about how he began to learn to appreciate the traditional Chinese art.

18 # Main Idea This article is concerned with the origin of fans and their various functions. It begins with a childhood memory of mother’s fan, pointing out that fans are rarely used today. Then it discusses the origin and the various functions of fans. It well combines the past and the present, the ancient and the modern.
