1 The City of Sierra Vista Youth Commission Annual Report 2012-2013

2 Commission Purpose The purpose of the Youth Commission is to advise City Council on matters of concern to the youth of Sierra Vista, and to recommend and encourage action programs and legislation beneficial to the youth of the community; promote better understanding and integration of youth and the local government, and assist in the planning, operation and evaluation of the local service delivery system for youth related services as consumers of these services.

3 Commission Members & Staff Commission Membership: Seven Commissioners serving staggered terms of two years with a three term limit. Malachi Gray – Commission Chairman Marcus Hodges – Commission Co-Chairman Julian Woods – City Commissioner Rachel Southee – City Commissioner Krysta Ellis– City Commissioner Rachel Jacobs – City Commissioner Dominic Valentin – City Commissioner

4 Commission Members & Staff cont. Megan Sneary – City Staff Liaison Council Member Rachel Gray – City Council Liaison Debra Chatham – Commission Secretary The Youth Commission meets during the third Tuesday of every month at 5:00 p.m. at the Conference Room in the Sierra Vista Public Library. However, the meeting place is anticipated to be moved to the new Teen Center when it is convenient.

5 2012 – 2013 Maintained full commission & officers for the year Participated in the Arizona League of Cities and Town’s Youth Day Decided on matters concerning the new Teen Center Volunteered at the city's Back to School Fair

6 2012-2013 Goals and Objectives Encourage the Youth Commission members to stay active and involved in city government. Support the events and activities the SVYC has continuously participated in. Encourage youth attendance at City Council meetings & other council sponsored and community events. Request council support to attend AZ League of Cities, Governor’s Youth Conference, & other training opportunities. Organize City Youth Commission events to raise interest among the general public to support the SVYC and future projects for the youth of Sierra Vista.
