Electricity & Magnetism Electricity Vocabulary / Concepts

Newton’s 1 st Law Quiz Retake Review Mandatory Quiz Retake Review: Tuesday 12/15 3-4pm Wednesday 12/16 11-12pm Quiz Retake Thursday 12/17 @ 2-4pm

Entry Task: What is the difference between voltage & current?

Rats & Cheese Analogy Voltage: Pressure that pushes electrons (rats) in a circuit. Hungry rats = high voltage Full rats = low voltage Create two circuits One with higher voltage One with lower voltage How can you tell you were successful?

Rats & Cheese Analogy Current: the amount of electrons flowing between two points per second Many rats = high current Few rats = low current Create two circuits One with higher current One with lower current How will you be able to tell you were successful?

Rats & Cheese Analogy Resistance: a property that slows the flow of electrons through the circuit No objects in the rats path = no resistance Objects in the rats path that slow it down = resistance ( the more objects, the more resistance) Create two circuits One with higher resistance One with lower resistance How can you tell you were successful?

Rats & Cheese Analogy Electrical Power: the rate electricity is produced or consumed Many hungry rats = high electrical power Few full rats = low electrical power Create two circuits One with higher electrical power One with lower electrical power How will you be able to tell you were successful?

Rats & Cheese Analogy Electrical Energy: the rate electricity is produced or consumed over time Many hungry rats each second = high electrical energy Few full rats each second = low electrical energy
