4 Rules of the Game Rules are designed to maintain the spirit of the game and to ensure the safety of players at all levels.

6 Uniform & Equipment Field Crosse Goalkeeper (GK) crosse Ball (new lime green allowed) GK equipment –Always wear jersey over pads Mouthpiece visible (not clear or white) Eye protection Uniforms/visible undergarments New eye black restriction

7 Time Factors and Scoring Duration: 50 minutes; 25-min halves Halftime: 10 minutes Clock stops after goals and every whistle in last 2 minutes of each half –Unless 10-goal differential exists Timeouts: 2 per team per game –Two minutes in length –Requested (by coach or player) after goals or in clear possession of the ball (leave sticks) Overtime: 6 minutes –Sudden victory, stop clock –One additional timeout

8 Scoring Whole ball passes completely over the goal line From a legal crosse of an attacker From a crosse of a defender Not a goal when: –Off a non-player or attacker’s body –Crosses line after a whistle or horn –Shooter steps on or in the goal circle –Shooter fouls during scoring –Illegal player on the field

9 Play of the Game Coaches and captains meeting –Coin toss, Halftime, Side/Alternate Possession Stick Check Draw 12 players on the field; 3 between restraining lines; toe the line; stick set up; “ready” Illegal draw Stand Restart play with a whistle Out of Bounds Shot/Deflected Shot

10 Play of the Game Restraining Line Goal Circle (GC) Rules –One player in GC –Shooter’s crosse can go over GC; not feet –GK must clear ball in 10 seconds –Cleared & played –Deputy GK New! Alternate Possession –Replaces the throw Substitution/Illegal Sub –When, where, how Stick Checks: 2/game

12 The Sphere The definition of the sphere: An imaginary area of 7 inches surrounding the head Extends shoulder to shoulder

16 Team Fouls/Offsides Offside A team must not have more then 7 players on or over the restraining line in their offensive end or have more than 8 players on or over the restraining line in their defensive end; one of 8 is usually a GK.

17 Goal Circle Fouls A field player must not enter or have any part or her body or crosse on or in the goal circle. Exceptions: 1.Deputy goalkeeper 2.Shooter’s crosse may follow through into the GC; feet may not touch the GC; shooting motion must initiate outside the GC. 3.Defender directly marking shooter may reach crosse into the GC; feet may not touch the GC. 4.The deputy GK may enter the GC to stop a rolling ball from crossing the goal line.

18 Goal Circle (GC) Fouls The Goalkeeper (GK) or her deputy must not: Allow the ball to remain in the GC for more than 10 seconds. Play the ball with her hand outside the GC with feet inside the GC. When grounded, she may not draw the ball back into GC. When outside the GC, throw her equipment to her deputy. Clear the ball with her hand. (When clearing) return the ball to the GC without the ball being “played.”

19 Free position –Typically spot of foul; never within 4m of boundary; 8m of GC; below goal line extended = on the dot (New!) Minor fouls –4m (13 feet) away “in the direction from which she approached” –Illegal draw = 4m away, 45 degrees in front –By Defense inside 12m fan = on the fan = Indirect free position (may not shoot until passed or crosse is “played.” Major fouls –4m directly behind Penalty Administration

20 Major fouls –Inside CSA/Outside 8M Arc = clear lane –Inside 8m Arc = clear arc and lane –3 seconds = spot of ball new! –Below GLE in CSA = dot new! Team/Restraining Line –By attack: spot of ball –By defense outside CSA = spot of ball –By defense inside CSA & above GLE = top of the 12M fan –By defense inside CSA & below GLE Goal Circle Fouls Penalty Administration

21 Cards Misconduct –Yellow card = 2 minute penalty –Red Card = 4 minute penalty (ejection) –Second yellow card to same player = suspended –Four team cards = play short for the remainder of game; for each additional card, a player comes off of the field Delay of Game –Green card (minor) –Green/Yellow (major) New! Player leaves field for 2 mins; Team plays short below RL Not a part of team card count

22 Flag/Slow Whistle Major Foul by the defense In the critcal scoring area (CSA) Scoring Play by the Attack Exception: Shooting Space = immediate whistle Scoring play ends when: –Shot on goal –Forward motion/effort ends –Attack loses possession –Attack fouls
