2 NC in the 70’s Racial issues were still going on. In early February, 1971, downtown Wilmington was a war zone. The largest demonstration following the assassination of King took place in the historic port city of Wilmington.

3 NC in the 70’s In the election of November 1970, the people of NC approved the new constitution by a vote of 393,759 to 251,132, along with five of the six amendments. North Carolina held its first presidential primary election on May 6, 1972.

6 Technology The 70’s were the start in many ways of the electronics and digital revolution. As people realized the power of these new home computers a new use was found and that was the beginning of the video game.

7 Fads/Fashion Men’s Fashion: They wore anything casual or dress clothing. The most popular formal wear outfits for a man during this time was the white suit. “Anything goes” group wore clashing clothes, tie-die shirts, bell-bottoms, or ripped jeans. A working casual outfit was the tomato red linen suit jacket worn with white silk crepe blouse and soft leather elastic wasted pants with seams in the knees. Upper class women wore simple classic timeless dresses such as a long flowing evening dress.
