5 History  Boston was first settled by Europeans in the 1600s.  Until the 1760s, Boston was America's largest, wealthiest, and most influential city.  During the 1770s Boston played a primary role in sparking the American Revolutionary War.  During the Boston Tea Party colonists destroyed a cargo of tea rather than pay the taxes to the British.

6 Famous Bostonians  Many famous people have originated from Boston.  Paul Revere was born in 1734 and was a patriot in the American Revolution. He is remembered for his cry, “the British are coming!”.  John Fitzgerald Kennedy was born in Boston in 1917. He was the 35 th President of the USA and was killed in 1963

7  Boston has a population of around 600,000 people, making it 23rd biggest city in the USA.  Boston is a city that loves its sports, with famous teams such as the Redsox (Baseball); The Patriots (Football) and the Celtics (Basketball) Boston Today

8  There are lots of things to do in Boston such as visiting historic buildings, shopping and riding on the famous ‘Boston Duck’, an amphibious tour bus.  Take a trip to Boston’s world famous Faneuil Hall Market Place. For over 250 years the hall, also known as Quincey Market, has played an integral part in the lives of Bostonians.

9  The Boston Pops are a world famous orchestra who play light classical music to enthusiastic audiences  From Boston harbour you can take a whale watching trip to see Humpback, Minke and Fintail whales

10  The USA is famous for its military marches performed in particular by the US Marine Band. American Marches  John Philip Sousa (1854-1932) composed some of the most famous marches in the world including the most popular “Stars and Stripes Forever”.
