2 LAWYER  Lawyer- Represent clients in criminal and civil litigation and other legal proceedings, draw up legal documents, or manage or advise clients on legal transactions. May specialize in a single area or may practice broadly in many areas of law.  A lawyer falls under the Leading and Influencing area.

3 TO BE A LAWYER YOU MUST…  values- A lawyer needs to be ethical, reliable, trustworthy, a friend. Along with these values a lawyer needs to be well educated, quick thinking, and a very analytical person (quick to analyze a situation and decide the best outcome to a situation) Remember you not only represent the innocent but you also represent the guilty.  tasks and responsibilities- Some of the areas you may specialize in include environmental law, criminal law, family law, social security and disability, medical malpractice and international law. As a lawyer some of your responsibilities would be to be able to communicate with clients, strengthen their client and case, maintain confidentiality of the case, assist clients with legal matters, and provide legal advice and counseling to their clients.  working with data-people-things- As a lawyer you will have to work with data, people, and things. You have to analyze all the evidence (data), work with your client, and things aren’t really a big factor in being a lawyer. You mainly just work with people.  work environment- Lawyers do most of their work in offices, law libraries and courtrooms. working hours- If you work for a smaller law firm then you will typically have 40- 45 hour weeks, but if you work at a larger law firm then it is averaged to about 66 hours per week. aptitudes and abilities- The practice of law involves a great deal of responsibility, aptitudes, and abilities. Individuals planning careers in law should like to work with people and be able to win the respect and confidence of their clients, associates, and the public. Perseverance, creativity, and reasoning ability also are essential to lawyers, who often analyze complex cases and handle new and unique legal problems. education and training- Becoming a lawyer usually takes 7 years of full-time study after high school 4 years of undergraduate study, followed by 3 years of law school. salary and benefits- The average pay for an Attorney / Lawyer is $113,530 per year. career outlook- Employment of lawyers is projected to grow 10 percent from 2012 to 2022, about as fast as the average for all occupations. international career outlook- Internationally the employment of lawyers is projected to keep growing. Demand for legal work will continue as individuals, businesses, and all levels of government require legal services in many areas.

4 My future as a lawyer…  Lifestyle/Lifestyle Goals- Being a lawyer, my lifestyle goals would be for a wealthy living, a nice big house, nice vehicles, a few pets and other vacation homes in other states.  Location- If I am a lawyer, I would like to stay in Michigan, close to home.

5 ORTHODONTIST  Orthodontist- Orthodontists are specialist dentists who correct irregularities in the way a person’s teeth are positioned. Using braces, retainers, and other devices, they force the teeth to move to a better position.  An orthodontist falls under the humanitarian area.

6 TO BE AN ORTHODONTIST YOU MUST…  Values- As an orthodontist you will have to be able to be comfortable working on other people’s mouth. You would need to be friendly considering that you will be working patients all day as your career.  Tasks and responsibilities-  teeth visually and with x-rays, photographs, and plaster impressions  Diagnose problems with teeth, such as crooked teeth, under bites, and overbites  Fit braces or retainers to correct teeth Give advice on preventive dental care Supervise dental hygienists and other staff Working with data-people-things- Orthodontists have to examine teeth visually and with x-rays, photographs, and plaster impressions, talk and be friendly with their patient, and they fit braces or retainers to correct teeth Work environment- Most work for themselves in private practice Often on call when not in the office Take safety precautions such as wearing gloves and masks Performing delicate procedures can be mentally exhausting Working Hours- Orthodontists typically work 7 to 8 hours a day, 5 days a week. Aptitudes and abilities- Hand-eye coordination Concern for people’s well being Patient and gentle Communication Skill In control and focused, even when tired Education and Training- To become an orthodontist, you must first qualify as a dentist. To be considered for entrance to dental school, you have to complete at least 2 years of a bachelor’s degree at college. However, because admission to dental school is so competitive, most applicants complete a bachelor’s degree before they apply. Salary and benefits- In general, they can earn anywhere from around $70,000 to upwards of $300,000 a year. It takes many years of study and practice to reach the higher levels of income. Career outlook- The career outlook for Orthodontists in Michigan is expected to go up within the next 6 years by 5.1%. International career outlook- Internationally, from now to 2018, the employment of Orthodontists’ is expected to project.

7 My future as an Orthodontist…  Lifestyle/Lifestyle Goals- Being an orthodontist, my lifestyle goals would be for a wealthy, comfortable living, with a nice big house, nice vehicles, a lot of money for vacations and pretty much the same living as it would be if I am a lawyer.  Location- If I am an orthodontists, I would like to stay in Michigan, close to home.
