2 Conducting or attending a meeting should have a purpose. Wether you are conveying the message or the receiver, there are some rules of engagment that can mean the difference between a productive meeting or a total waste of a good hour.

3 Looking professional goes beyond what you wear. It’s important to pay attention to details like, clean nails, shoes, body odors, hair, breath. This is a time when you are closer that usual. Look at yourself in the mirror and opt for a presentable image.

4 Review the meeting agenda before you arrive and make sure you have accurate information to share, also pay attention to the details shared by others. Have a clear understanding of the purpose of the meeting before you walk in.

5 If you are the presenter make sure to stay on topic and engage your audience. No one likes a boring speaker or to listen to irrelevant information. Keep it short and direct, but stay calm and relax. Take a couple of deep breaths before starting or listen to a song that inspire you. Enthusiasm is contagious, and so its boredom.

6 Make your point, but stay open to hear others. Listening to the audience, can give you an idea of what issues need to be addressed and future meetings topics.

7 Watch your language, even if you feel comfortable with the audience, your position as a leader should be treasured, and foul language or rude comments can take away from the actual message or information shared.

8 Avoid small talk or comments while someone else is speaking.

9 Mobile devices have become a great business tool, but that does not mean you should be reading emails/text or playing a game, while attending the meeting. If there is a matter that needs your immediate attention excuse yourself and handle the call/text outside the meeting area.

10 Confidetiality. Don’t be the one who leaves the meeting and goes around telling what was discussed. Let the information be shared by those responsible and at a time when is appropriate.

11 Give credit to any collaborators or team members that assisted before or during the meeting.

12 Stay on schedule and thank the audience/speaker for their time.
