4 What is an ally? A person, group, or nation that is associated with another or others for some common cause or purpose; A person who associates or cooperates with another; supporter LizNoel Duncan, M.Ed., LCSW

5 How can you be an ally? LizNoel Duncan, M.Ed., LCSW

6 What would you do? Ignore the situation or walk away Intervene Myself Talk to the person privately later Seek assistance from an adult or someone older LizNoel Duncan, M.Ed., LCSW

8 Set a good example. Don’t encourage bullying behavior Be friendly Don’t spread gossip/rumors Don’t make up stories about other students Be a leader for good Get to know people instead of judging them. LizNoel Duncan, M.Ed., LCSW

9 Don’t give bullying an audience Don’t encourage the behavior by laughing or supporting it. Tell the bully that their behavior isn’t funny. Don’t pay attention LizNoel Duncan, M.Ed., LCSW

10 How can you be an ally? Stand up for kids being bullied. Stop the behavior immediately. “Are you okay?” “Leave him/her alone.” “Why would you say that to someone. That’s really mean.” “That’s not nice.” “That’s not cool.” Ask the bully why they are acting as a bully “What did you mean by that?” “That was really mean. 11 Be a friend to the person being bullied You can help someone being bullied by just being nice to them at another time, letting them know that they are not alone. Invite them to play sports Eat lunch with them Listen to them when they talk about being bullied Ask how you can help Talk to a trusted adult LizNoel Duncan, M.Ed., LCSW

12 Tell a trust adult family member teacher coach counselor An adult can help stop bullying by getting involved while it is happening, preventing it from happening, or supporting the person being bullied. LizNoel Duncan, M.Ed., LCSW

13 Help the person get away from the situation Create a distraction Tell them that an adult needs to see them Invite the person being bullied to go somewhere else with you LizNoel Duncan, M.Ed., LCSW
