3 WHAT IS AN ELEMENT? An element is something that cannot be broken down any more

4 WHAT IS A COMPOUND? Two or more elements that are combined chemically, form a compound.

5 HOW IS WATER IMPORTANT TO THE FUNCTIONS OF CELLS?  Water dissolves chemicals that cells need  Helps keep their size and shape  Helps keep the temperature of cells from changing to quickly

6 WHAT MAKES UP CELLS? Cells are the basic unit of life. But cells are made up of lipids and proteins.

7 WHAT IS A NUCLEIC ACID? Nucleic acids are very long organic molecules. Some examples are carbon, oxygen, hydrogen, nitrogen, and phosphorus.
