5 Gather examples from similar organizations Other group's bylaws can make a good rough guide in the creation of your organization's bylaws

6 Decide by whom and how the bylaws will be written and approved Possibilities – Board of Directors – Officers – Steering Committee – A combination of these groups

7 Write a first draft of your bylaws Include sections on: – Name and purpose of the organization – Membership – Officers and decision-making – General, special and annual meetings – Board of Directors

8 After completion of draft Meet as a group to discuss the proposed bylaws Complete and approve the final draft Be sure copies are given to anyone who needs them Use your bylaws! Review and amend your bylaws periodically
