E VALUATION Q UESTION 3 W HAT HAVE YOU LEARNT FROM YOU AUDIENCE FEEDBACK ?

Feedback Questionnaire In order to gain feedback we created a short questionnaire and asked our classmates to fill it out as they watched our trailer. On the questionnaire we wanted the give open questions that allowed the audience member to have more chance to say what they felt. A few of the questions are multiple choice or closed questions to give the questionnaire variations and also to get direct feedback on certain points. An example being, ‘do you think the certificate of a 15 is appropriate for this film?’; by giving a yes/no option we were able to see if they agreed our not. The only issue with short, closed questions is that if the person says no and disagree, we wouldn’t be able to understand why and therefore we cant learnt from it. The other, more open questions gave us more informational and understanding on what they enjoyed or why they didn’t. The last question was multiple choose across 5 technical areas of the film. This gave us feedback on each area and also a way to see which one they felt was stronger or the weakest.

G AINING A UDIENCE F EEDBACK Closed Questions: The questions are kept short and only offer Yes/No answers. The questions use categories more so that your can easily choose which answer suits your opinion best. The answers are easier to collate and put into stats to compare, a they are very clear cut. They are quantative which means that gives you a quantity of results but can means less quality and limited details to answers. As there are only a few options the person filling it out may be objective and bias to fit with the limited answers they can choose. Open Questions: The questions may still be short but they give a more open end answers to allows the person to explain their response. These results are qaulatative, more quality and detailed response. These questions allow for a more subjective answers where the audience member can say what they want rather then tick a box. The questions means that there is a larger response, a more information in each question, so that we can understand and learn from what the person is saying. They are harder to create stats and mean a longer to process as the answers may be very different.

C LASS F EEDBACK This is the results form the closed question we asked our audience in the questionnaire. We were able to clearly show these results in a table and easily see patterns and the overall opinion. These results also so us how well our film come across and fit it’s brief. Firstly we can see that a large amount of people agreed with the 15 rating which we tried to aim for, however due to the closed question we couldn’t see why they disagreed and what rating they would give it. The second table was a question about how well our film trailer fit the brief. The table shows us that the majority of the class/ audience agreed that it was a dystopia trailer and film. This meant that we had conveyed our theme well and clearly.

C LASS F EEDBACK For this last question we wanted to know if the our trailer had been successful at selling the film. The majority of the class show that we would want to watch the full film. This lets us know that the trailer was convincing and interesting; as well as being dynamic enough to create a storyline and characters that the audience would want to see more. These questions give limited information that is hard to learn from but they but give us feedback on certain areas where we weren’t sure about or how it came across.

C LASS F EEDBACK Positive Feedback: ‘’Effective theme of a dystopia, the characters worked well!’’ ‘’Excellent contrast before and after the electricity goes!’’ ‘’I really enjoyed your trailer it was very realistic!’’ ‘’Would I see the whole film? Hell Yeah!’’ ‘’Audio was very good and linked well.’’ ‘’Interesting story line and the acting of the mother was really good!’’ ‘’The torch used as the only source of light was good.’’ ‘’I love the home footage technique, was really effective! Also like clover field!’’ Constructive criticism ‘’The scream on the 999 call was not realistic.’’ ‘’wasn’t clear why the electricity goes.’’ ‘’The font needs to be a bit bigger.’’ These are some of the answers from our open question where the audience could give more informative and personal responses. The top answer are positive feedback to the trailer. These answers are more specific then the others and so we can see what area they are talking about, acting, lighting, themes, etc. The bottom answer are response we can learn from. An example of ‘The scream on the 999 call was not realistic’, is a clear area where the film is unclear. We can then learn from this to work on or advice for further projects.

We wanted to get feedback from our audience before we released our whole film because we wanted to see I different opinion to the film. Our audience is the people we are trying to impress and sell to and we wanted to make sure we meet their criteria. The feedback we received allowed us to know weather the film was believable and entertaining, as well as marketable. As we show cases our trailer to a smaller audience we could see if we had hit our target audience but also potential learn way to make our film easier to sell to a wider audience. This feedback can the also help out our distribution company and production companies as they can learn what the latest film goer want to see and understand how to interest and excite them. Overall I am happy with the feedback for our trailer, as it clear any droughts we had about genre and narrative. The feedback also gave us an idea of what age our audience would rate our content; as well as what age group would be most likely to see the film. We could then create a more specific focus audience, which we would relay to our distribution company. C LASS F EEDBACK

If I was going to remake or create another film trailer I would try to gain feedback before the release. I would either release shorter, teaser trailers to built interest and response that I could then learn from for the main trailer. I would also try to use social media sites that allowed people to watch the trailers/ clips and leave a response. This would also allow them to share it easily to a wide audience and allow us to change what the audience had concerns about, using it to create our distribution plan. In terms of the feedback the 999 call was ‘unclear’ and so was the plot/ story line at times. We can then learn from this that we need to keep to story clear and understandable as it develops through the film. Also we can learn that the acting and validity of a scene can change weather the audience relate or understand what’s going on. An example being our 999 call, some people said that it was unrealistic and unclear. This means that because it can across as staged and unreal, the audience could not relate to what was going on which may have lead to lack of interest to the scene as a whole. This is a learning experience as we want to keep the audience entertained and informed about what’s going on. C LASS F EEDBACK
