2 Email-a system for sending messages from one individual to another via telecommunications links between computers or terminals IRC-An international computer network of Internet servers, using its own protocol through which individual users can hold real-time online conversations BBS-bulletin board system: a computerized facility, accessible by modem, for collecting and relaying electronic messages and software programs.

3 HTTP-hypertext transfer protocol: the standard protocol for transferring hypertext documents on the World Wide Web. FTP-File Transfer Protocol: a software protocol for exchanging information between computers over a network Telnet-An Internet communications protocol that enables a computer to function as a terminal working from a remote computer.

4 Gopher-a protocol for a menu-based system of accessing documents on the Internet. Intranet-a computer network with restricted access, as within a company, that uses software and protocols developed for the Internet. Fire wall-an integrated collection of security measures designed to prevent unauthorized electronic access to a networked computer system.

Online Profiling-A marketing technique that collects online data about consumers Cookies-a message, or segment of data, containing information about a user, sent by a Web server to a browser and sent back to the server each time the browser requests a Web page

Client-Computers. a workstation on a network that gains access to central data files, programs, and peripheral devices through a server

7 Dsl-digital subscriber line: a technology that allows high-speed transmission of text, audio, and video, usually over standard telephone lines; a form of broadband transmission Ethernet-a type of network technology for local area networks; coaxial cable carries radio frequency signals between computers at a rate of 10 megabits per second Netiquette-the rules of etiquette that apply when communicating over computer networks, esp. the Internet

Topology-a collection of open sets making a given set a topological space Wireless networks-refers to any type of computer network that is wireless, and is commonly associated with a telecommunications network whose interconnections between nodes.
