1. The Arrival Final Options 50 points; Due Next Thursday 12/17

2. Create a Book Cover  Create a new book cover for The Arrival  Should illustrate one of the themes of the novel  Include three of the symbols that are present throughout the novel  Create a new title  On the back include a synopsis and background information on the author

3. Replicate the Opening/Closing Page  Take pictures or images that represent you and your family  Symbols must be significant to you and show change over time, like the two pages  You will have 18 images total; 9 for an earlier time and 9 representing change or transformation  On a separate sheet of paper explain each image and its significance to you/your family  Example: If your family has always loved music maybe choose a family piano as one image for the starting point, and this may then be transformed into an iPod in the final set of images

4. Writing a Chapter  You can choose one of the six chapters to write the narrative  Include either dialogue or monologue depending on who the main character interacts with  Use figurative language, detail, and diction to enhance the narrative  Approx. 2-3 pages double spaced

5. Prequel or Sequel  Draw a six box comic as either the prequel or the sequel to the narrative  Does not need to have words, similar to the narrative  Should have color and detail  On the back of the comic explain your line of reasoning behind the images you created  Include one symbol from the novel in your own drawing

6. Essay Option  There are several themes in this book, which are easily identifiable when you consider the story as a whole. An example of this is the importance of family. Certain images within the text exemplify this, such as when the main character appears sad or distressed when he looks at his family portrait  Choose two additional themes and using images in the book as support for your choices  Approx. 2-3 pages double spaced

7. Tell Your Family Story  Many of our families have immigrated to the United States from other countries; retell your family’s history  Create a visual telling how your family immigrated to the United States  Create a poster board, comic, photo album, or write a story about your family’s history (2-3 pages)
