2 Learning Objective I will get the opportunity to analyse sources to help come to a decision

3 Synthesis – how to write the arguments for When writing your arguments for or against you need to use synthesis i.e.  Source A or B  Statistical source – the C sources  Background knowledge (we will add this later). Remember you are persuading the person you are writing to that your recommendation is the right solution.

4 Arguments for Minister, I urge you to introduce the PASS proposals as this policy will help on “the journey to end smoking in Scottish society.” Furthermore the PASS proposal has massive public support with a recent opinion poll showing that 75% support a ban in public places such as outside pubs and shops. This policy, if introduced will be an important step in meeting the aims of becoming smoke free by 2034. Minister, it is time to show society that smoking is “socially unacceptable” and make Scotland smoke free. A C5 BK A

5 Some of the arguments for 1) New legislation is needed 2) Costs to health and to government 3) Harm to others caused by passive smoking 4) Link between smoking and people in poverty 5) Extension will make non-smokers lives more pleasant

6 Task Working in pairs do the following; Identify arguments for in source A Identify evidence in the C sources that support source A Write out an argument for – it should have a heading and at least; Two points from source A One piece of evidence from the C sources Remember to use persuasive language.
