2 The Failure of the League of Nations U.S. never joined. Soviet Union never joined. Germany and Japan left the League in the 1930s.

4 Basically, Hitler and Nazi Germany violated the Treaty of Versailles and took back territories they lost after WWI Appeasement: giving into the demands of an enemy in order to avoid war.

7 What does this mean for the U.S.? Cautious Neutrality Neutrality Acts, 1935-1937 Americans prohibited from trading with foreign countries at war and traveling on ships of nations at war. Non-military goods sold on a “cash and carry” basis. Lend-Lease Act, 1941 Provided aid for victims of aggression.
