2 Let’s Review: 3 rd Conjugation! 3 rd conjugation verbs have –O, -ERE in their dictionary entry. pono, ponere, posui, positus mitto, mittere, misi, missus

3 Present Tense 3 rd Conjugation Verbs 3 rd conjugation verbs have a little “trick” to make their present tense. pono, ponere, posui, positus Instead of dropping just the –RE to find the stem, go ahead and drop the –ERE instead!

7 Translate! (present tense practice) 1. Puella litteras mittit. 2. Cibum in mensā (table) pono. 3. Romani non cedunt. 4. Serve, frumentum in carrum pone! 5. Servi, aquam in casā ponite! 6. Agricola carrum agit. 7. Viri boni patriam defendunt.

8 Translate! (present tense practice) 1. Puella litteras mittit. – The girl sends a letter(s). 2. Cibum in mensā (table) pono. – I put the food on the table.

9 Translate! (present tense practice) 3. Romani non cedunt. – The Romans do not yield. 4. Serve, cibum in carrum pone! – Slave, put the grain into the cart!

10 Translate! (present tense practice) 5. Servi, aquam ad casam ponite! – Slaves, carry water to the house! 6. Agricola carrum agit. – The farmer drives a cart. 7. Viri boni patriam defendunt. – Good men defend the/our fatherland.

12 Future Tense 3 rd Conjugation Verbs 3 rd conjugation verbs use the same stem to make their future tense as they do their present tense. pono, ponere, posui, positus Instead of dropping just the –RE to find the stem, go ahead and drop the –ERE instead!

14 NO “-BO” 3 rd conjugation verbs do NOT use our “old” future tense endings: -bo, -bis, -bit, -bimus, -bitis, -bunt You only use the “-bo” endings for 1 st and 2 nd conjugation verbs (-o, -are and –eo, -ēre) Use me: E!
