3. Present Tense 3 rd Conjugation Verbs 3 rd conjugation verbs have a little “trick” to make their present tense. pono, ponere, posui, positus Instead of dropping just the –RE to find the stem, go ahead and drop the –ERE instead!

7. Translate! (present tense practice) 1. Puella litteras mittit. 2. Cibum in mensā (table) pono. 3. Romani non cedunt. 4. Serve, frumentum in carrum pone! 5. Servi, aquam in casā ponite! 6. Agricola carrum agit. 7. Viri boni patriam defendunt.

8. Translate! (present tense practice) 1. Puella litteras mittit. – The girl sends a letter(s). 2. Cibum in mensā (table) pono. – I put the food on the table.

9. Translate! (present tense practice) 3. Romani non cedunt. – The Romans do not yield. 4. Serve, cibum in carrum pone! – Slave, put the grain into the cart!
