4 The economy was based upon agriculture. Was forced to create an elected legislature The people suffered from famine National poverty, struggle to feed the rapidly growing population

5 Revolts and uprisings which threatened the tsars rule The Soviet Union was the first state to have, as an ideological objective, the elimination of religion and its replacement with universal atheism.

6 It was rumored that Anastasia was Nicholas II’s daughter, but that was proven wrong. Anastasia was a beautiful cleaning lady. Many Russians felt that Rasputin and Alexandra were running the war behind the scenes instead of the Grand Duke Nicholas (Tsar)and his military advisors.

8 Nicholas got the nickname Nicholas the Bloody because of his rule being characterized by war and civil unrest. Nicholas did not work with other countries, which may have been one of the causes for the start of World War I. By spring 1917 the Romanov family was no longer in rule due to the growing influence of Gregory Rasputin. POLITICAL

He did not want to rule Nicholas married German Princess Alix of Hesse He was classified as a naïve and incompetent leader because he was unprepared for the throne The last czar to rule over Russia
