5 Why the Need for ICTs in the 21 st Century Classroom ? Con’d  Classrooms are sterile,  Methodologies content based and irrelevant  21 st Century Education demands…….that we prepare for a diverse globalised and complex media- saturated society  There is a need to change the nature of the culture of student engagement in our classrooms for a healthy balanced and sustainable society

6 Why the Need for ICTs in the 21 st Century Classroom ?  SSS & SHS Student turnover  SHSS turns over approx. 1100 students/yr x 34 yr totaling 37,400  SSS turns over 750 students/yr x 50 totaling 37,500  50% of our current population could have been educated at SSS and SHSS………

7 Enabling Factors  The vision statements of both schools already embrace the objective to infuse ICT in the teaching learning process  Climate is poised to utilise technology Each has 2 computer labs Audio Visual room Portable Multimedia SSS Video conferencing facility Staff computers/laptops

8 Factors con’d Some techno-savvy staff Some techno-savvy students And of course the ubiquitous “first form laptops”

9 1.1. Staff will be able to acquire the knowledge and ability to use 21st century technology in delivery and assessment of lessons. 2. Teachers will develop skills in infusing technology in the delivery and assessment of lessons. Goals
