3 In our subjects… KS4 GCSE ICT- Spread sheets: – Knowledge: What is a spread sheet? What can it do? What’s a cell reference? – Understanding: why would we use a spread sheet? – Application: use of formulas and functions to solve problems. – Analysis: What are the benefits of using a spread sheet? What are the drawbacks of using a spread sheet? – Synthesis: Planning and creating a spreadsheet model for a given purpose. – Evaluation: comparing the purpose of a spreadsheet with a database. What problems are there with spread sheets and how could these be overcome?

4 In our subjects… KS4 T&T- Sustainable tourism: – Knowledge: What is sustainable tourism? Methods of creating sustainable tourism. – Understanding: why is sustainable tourism important? Impacts of unsustainable tourism. – Application: Looking at examples of when sustainable tourism has been used/developed. Did it work or not? Why? – Analysis: What are the benefits & drawbacks of sustainable tourism? – Synthesis: Could sustainable tourism methods used in one destination work in another? What adaptations might need to be made and why? – Evaluation: Recommending & justifying methods of sustainable tourism for a destination or attraction.

5 Getting Blooms into lessons Success criteria: Differentiated tasks & focused group work Using assessment objectives and criteria ALL must be able to identify and explain the contents of a business plan. MOST should be able to explain the importance of creating a business plan. SOME could be able to analyse the usefulness of business plans to entrepreneurs and evaluate a business plan. ALL to identify roles that a learning support assistant has within Lord Grey School. MOST should be able to describe and explain the role and responsibility of a LSA and how they help the school to function. SOME could be able to compare the similarities and differences between the school’s Business Director and an LSA.

6 Practical Blooms activities for lessons Eggheads: stronger students to create questions based on the info in a case study, weaker students to answer Crosswords and puzzles: stronger students to create, weaker students to complete Learning grids & linking concepts together: In pairs, students roll the dice twice to get a cell reference. This is repeated so that so 2 cells are chosen & they then need to connect the two concepts together. Top Trumps: students need to use their thinking skills to put their best feature forward. Could be used with business ownerships or operating systems Thinking hats…

7 Thinking hats 1.Stimulus material shared with the entire group 2.Groups and hats issued. Each group has a specific focus. 3.Time given for them to have discussions & share ideas. Perhaps provide some starting points for discussions.

8 Thinking hats 4. Feedback so that the whole class then has an informed view. 5. Review questions, building in Blooms.
