You are now apart of the company Gulfshore Opera! This year we will be learning a lot about music! We will be learning some amazing songs to sing, and will learn how to play buckets with drum sticks. Are you ready for a year of F-U-N?

4 + A little bit about Opera… An OPERA is a show that is completely sung, and uses costumes and scenery. Gulfshore Opera does both operas and concerts using orchestra, singers and sometimes dancers! See kids your age singing in an OPERA! 5 + Singing words to know! We are all SINGERS in this room! We will all be singing together in a CHOIR or CHORUS. If someone sings alone they are singing a SOLO. When two people sing together, they sing a DUET.

6 + Introduction Games Name games! Hickety Pickety Bumblebee (need ball or object to toss) Sitting in a circle on the floor, the teacher rolls or throws a ball to different students. The student who has the ball sings back their name.

Everyday warm ups (TEACHERS: See WARM UP file) VOCAL WARM UP GAME OF THE DAY: Sing the alphabet quickly, using a 5-note scale up and down three times, ending do - si - do on x - y- z. Start slowly and at a low pitch (the goal is tongue quickness and distinct consonants, not range extension). Sing in the front half-inch of the face (use the tip of the tongue, not the middle).

10 + Question of the day: Who is a composer? A composer is a person who writes the music you hear an orchestra play, a singer sing, or on the radio each day. Songs have to come from somewhere! It’s the composer who creates them!

11 + Learning songs! (TEACHERS: print out copies of each song for students to follow along with) Joyful, Joyful We Adore Thee Composed by: Ludwig van Beethoven WHO WAS BEETHOVEN?—DISCOVER! http://www.classicsforkids.com/composers/bio.asp?id=7
