1 City Life (Citizenship): Responsible Citizenship Henry Wilson Memorial 6 th grade: Social Studies September 16, 2013

2 Lesson Goals  The students will be able to evaluate what it means to be a responsible citizen.  The students will be able to evaluate behaviors of a responsible citizen.  The students will be able to understand the full actions expected of a successful Enterprise City citizen.

3 Lesson Vocabulary citizen:  Resident of a city or town, especially one entitled to vote.

4 Lesson Vocabulary law:  The code of conduct or rules established in a community that is enforced. The citizens of the community must follow these rules for safety and running of the community.

5 Lesson Vocabulary taxes:  A contribution that supports a government, required of persons or businesses within the domain of that government.

6 Lesson Vocabulary business:  A particular field of endeavor, a commercial activity engaged in as a means of livelihood.

7 Lesson Vocabulary civics:  The study or science of the privileges of citizens.

8 Lesson Vocabulary government:  A formal way of ruling, controlling or managing a group of people
