2 Why Take Cornell Notes? Research shows that repeated interaction/reflection with notes increases retention. “One learns through the processing of information by the brain. Words very seldom imprint themselves on the brain; but thinking does.” (Walter Pauk)

3 Step 1: Setting Up Your Notebook Paper The first step in taking Cornell Notes is to set up your notebook paper. Use a pen to divide your notebook paper as follows: 2” 6”2.5” 0.5”

4 Explanation of Sections Questions Note-Taking Area Summary Essential Question Name Date Title The essential question should address the main concept(s) of the notes. Write a corresponding question for each main concept. Try to anticipate test questions. Your summary should include the answers to the essential question as well as the questions you wrote. Take concise notes, putting emphasis on main concepts.
