2 Transform the school so that male and female students, exceptional students and students from diverse cultural, social-class, racial and ethnic groups experience an equal opportunity to learn.

3 Four different levels to multicultural education

4 Level 1 Contributions Approach In which the study of ethnic heroes (Rose Park or Martin Luther King) are included in the curriculum. Also, “food and festival” could be featured or holidays such as Cinco De Mayo are being celebrated.

5 Level 2 Additive Approach A unit or course is incorporated, often but not always during a “special” week or month. Example: February has become the month to study African Americans while March has been designed Women’s History Month.

6 Level 3 Transformation Approach Students are taught to view events and issues from diverse ethnic and cultural perspectives.

7 Level 4 Social Action Students not only learn to view issues from multiple perspectives but also become directly involved in solving related problems. The level promotes decision making and social action in order to achieve multicultural goals.
