2 Future 2013 Environmental Conditions Urban areas will experience an increasingly diverse PK-12 population. District minority population will increase significantly. 11 Green Bay schools are currently majority minority. It is predicted that the entire school system will be majority minority in 10 years. Currently 37% of students in the GB school system are culturally diverse Demand for resources to address language and cultural issues. Brown County has the 5 th largest Hispanic population in WI. College is experiencing rapid growth in need for English Language Learner (ELL) resources

3 Future 2013 Strategic Goals Ensure that non-English speaking population of the district have the opportunity to successfully complete a degree or diploma Ensure there is no statistical differentiation in the success rate among populations of students based on gender, ethnicity, or (dis )ability Increase the percentage of students who successfully transition from basic education and successfully complete degree/diploma programs

4 Annual Multicultural Recruitment Projects Develop and implement Minority Participation Grant Offer multiple occupational certificate courses in other languages (RISE initiative) NWTC First Year College Experience Middle and High School Campus Career Days High school recruitment visits (on-site TABE testing for students of color) Basic Education, Personal Learning Plan Development, and Writing Lab services in MCC Referral to on-campus and community resources

5 Annual Multicultural Center Events Academic Advising in the center 4 days /week Strong collaboration with Student Life Advising of multicultural student organizations Social, cultural and community events: NWTC Multi-Ethnic Fair Intertribal Craft Workshop Multicultural Graduation Banquet Annual Hispanic Festival Hmong New Year Celebration Asian Talent Show Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration

6 2009-10 Current Initiatives Follow-up phone calls to minority program applicants to assist with transition Monthly Basic Education orientations offered in the Center to promote transition into programs Partner with Atonement Lutheran Church grant funding College Prep: Language Arts Classes Increase visitation to other district high schools with minority populations MC student mentors will coordinate at least 2 visits to high school classrooms in Green Bay School District 5 year minority recruitment plan will be developed as part of the WTCS Minority Participation Grant
