3 Revision Techniques 1. Your place of work should be organised and undisturbed use a comfortable chair ( not lying on the bed!!) table for working space good lighting necessary equipment; notes, books, revision guides etc 2. Learning the work – memorise facts vocabulary in foreign languages quotations in literature diagrams/drawings scientific facts formulae in maths and science

4 3. Active learning Write down the main points (DON’T copy out pages of notes) Draw diagrams and flow charts Test yourself on key points Highlight the main points and key words in your notes Use mnemonics to help you remember eg N.CHOPS = elements in proteins; Nitrogen, Carbon, Hydrogen, Phosphorus, Sulphur 4. Revision notes Only jot down the main points (you could use cards for this) Use the cards to re-test yourself (or get someone to help you) Number the points on the list Use published revision guides 5. Using memory maps! Memory maps use words, pictures and links to help you remember notes in a different way. These are most effective when looked at weekly. Start by drawing a picture or key word in the middle of a blank page. Add branches to the “map” including key words and pictures. Use arrows to connect linking ideas.
