2. THE PROBLEM:THE PROBLEM: The Ozone layer is a protective layer above the Earth. It is made up of tiny ozone molecules that protects us from the harmful rays of the sun. The hole in our Ozone layer is getting bigger and bigger.

3. In the late 1920s, chemicals called chlorofluorocarbons (clorofluoro- carbons) or CFCs, were invented. These chemicals were not poisonous and did not harm plants or people. Companies thought they were great and used them in: Refrigerators Air conditioners Polystyrene packaging Spray cans By using these products billions of CFC molecules were released into the air. The CFC’s float up into the stratosphere, breaking up the ozone molecules. This is bad because the ozone molecules in the stratosphere protects the Earth from too many harmful UV rays. THE CAUSE:

5. People: Skin Cancer – As the hole in the Ozone layer gets bigger and bigger more sun rays come through to Earth and more and more people get skin cancer. Plants and Animals: Food Chain – Some animals eat other animals which eat some plants. This is called a food chain. If the heat gets too hot then the plant might not survive. The animals that eat that plant might not have enough food and could eventually die. Climate Change: Ozone Layer Disappearing - Wind patterns could change the climate all throughout the world.
