2 Objectives After today’s lesson, the student will be able to:
Have a basic understanding of the concept of multicultural education. Apply the four approaches of teaching multicultural education.

3 Definition “Multicultural education is an idea or concept, a process, and an educational reform movement that assumes America’s diversity should be reflected in U.S. education. These ideas were developed to assist teachers to promote democracy while responding to the many issues created by rapidly changing demographics of their students.” (Good)

4 Why is it important? Different social and economic classes
Diverse cultural groups Varied language groups As a teacher, you WILL face students from different backgrounds than you.

11 Activity Time! Look over the book at your table. Take a few minutes with your table group to discuss it and come up with an idea you could use in a classroom to incorporate this book and its culture into learning.
