3 Queen Victoria ruling time 1837 -1901
Victoria, queen of Great Britain and Ireland (1837–1901) and empress of India (1876–1901). She was the daughter of duke of Kent (fourth son of George III) and Princess Mary Louise Victoria. Victoria's father died before she was a year old. in 1837, at the age of 18, she succeeded her uncle, William IV, to the throne. In 1840, Victoria married her first cousin, Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha In 1861, Albert (who had been named prince consort in 1857) died.

-- great economic, social, and political changes occurred in Britain. The British Empire covered about a fourth of the world’s land. Industry and trade expanded rapidly, and railroads and lands crisscrossed the country. --- Science and technology made great advances. ---The government introduced democratic reforms. For example, an increasing number of people received the right to vote. --- Factory and farm workers lived in terrible poverty. Rich people lived on poor people with the cover of religion. --- England was two nations, one rich and one poor. Oliver Twist, Vanity Fair ,the three Bronte , all these writers attacked the greed and hypocrisy they saw in society. --- The term Victorian, like the middle-class society in the time of Queen Victoria, very respectable and religious in a formal way that sometimes only pretends to be good and pure --- If we say “His opinions/styles are very Victorian” ,we mean that. 8 Victorian Morals 1.The period of Victoria was famous for advocating accomplishment of morals. Victorian prudery sometimes went so far as to deem it improper to say "leg" in mixed company; instead, the preferred euphemism “limb” was used. Those going for a swim in the sea at the beach would use a bathing machine . They spent a lot of time disparaging the behavior of the boorish.

Verbal or written communication of emotion or sexual feelings was also often proscribed so people instead used the language of flowers. However they also wrote explicit erotica, perhaps the most famous being the racy tell-all My Secret Life by Henry Spencer Ashbee, who wrote under the pseudonym Walter.

Also hard work, self-reliance, cleanliness, The term Victorian has acquired a range of connotations, including that of particularly strict set of moral standards, which are often applied hypocritically.

The writings of Charles Dickens in particular observed and recorded these conditions.
