RELAY

Relay A relay is an electically operated switch. Many relays use an electromagnet to operate a switching mechanism mechanically, but other operating principles are also used. Relays are used where it is necessary to control a circuit by a low-power signal (with complete electrical isolation between control and controlled circuits), or where several circuits must be controlled by one signal. The first relays were used in long distance telegraph circuits, repeating the signal coming in from one circuit and re-transmitting it to another. Relays were used extensively in telephone exchanges and early computers to perform logical operations.

Types of Relay Latching Relay Reed Relay Contactor Polarised Relay Solid State Relay

Working with the Relay As it’s a switch, it has some pin configuration also. No. of pins decide the operation of inputs and outputs. We are using Relay of 5 Pins. Which is used offcourse for swiching purpose. Provide a sufficient amount of current to this relay, an extra circuit is also require because microcontroller is not capable of providing such current, that’s why ULN2803 IC is used for this purpose.

ULN2803 IC pin Configuration

Continue... Input of this IC is connected with the the controler’s ouput. Output of this IC directly goes to the Relay to operate it. Therefore, any Electical device of 220V, 100W can be controlled.
