Semantics Every language has its syntax and semantics Syntax is the study of grammar (how to say something) Semantics is the study of meaning (behind what you say) Why is semantics exploited in MATCH To use knowledge, skill and competence elements as a concrete (practical) “harmonization” means, by referring to European tools (EQF, Europass) To let LO-MATCH understand the meaning behind offer and demand descriptions by job seekers and employers

Two-step learning outcomes annotation Assigning categories Identifying knowledge elements Identifying verbs acting on knowledge (i.e. putting knowledge into action, through a skill) Identifying context components, i.e. characterizing a competence Assigning definitions Choosing among those suggested by the platform By defining new ones and linking them to the existing ontological structure
