1 Welcome to Using Email 2010 How to use Gmail, it’s free!

2 Why have a Gmail account? 1.No SPAM! Gmail automatically blocks spam from your in box. Spam-is unwanted advertisements and emails. 2.Allows you to search for sent and received messages. 3.Create Labels to organize your emails. 4.Check your email anywhere there is Internet available. 5.Tons of storage space and it is FREE!

3 Creating an email account. 1.Type in www.google.comwww.google.com 2.Click the sign in button. 3.Click create an account now. 4.Choose an email address. Usually the first letter of your first name and last name is a good idea. (kbuscher or keribuscher) 5.Fill in the required blanks. This is a free account.

4 Composing emails 1.This is the box where you would enter the person’s email address. Let’s try it! Send it to: kerikistler@gmail.com 2.Subject: This line allows you to give a short blurb about what the email is about.

5 Continue composing emails 3.Enter your message in the big white box. 4.Push Send. 5.Check the top of your screen and it will tell you that your message was sent successfully.

6 Send an Attachment 1.Click on the attachment button. 2.Search for the material you want to send with your email. 3.You will need to have saved a document, picture, or file on your computer to be able to attach it. 4.Let’s try it! Send me an attachment created in word with your name.

7 Creating Labels “ Folders ” 1.Open your inbox. 2. Left hand side, click more and choose “Create a new label”. 3. Labels-allow you to create a “folder” to organize emails. Example: coupons, jokes, family pictures, etc…

8 Create Contact Lists Contacts is located on the left hand side. 1.Click on the Contacts button. 2.Choose “new contact”. 3.Click in the “add name” box. Add my name. Keri Buscher, Teacher 4.Click in email and add my email address. kerikistler@gmail.com kerikistler@gmail.com 5.Click “Saved”. You created a contact!

9 Creating Groups This lets you complete an email and send it to many people at one click. 1.On the left handside, scroll to the bottom and see the “New Group” button. 2.Click on it. 3.Add the Group name. Examples: Family, Colleagues, Friends, etc… 4.Open “My Contacts” and click on each email address you want in that specific group.

10 Creating Groups Cont… 6.If you don’t have the group open, you may have to go to the group button. 7.Click on the person(s) you want to add and then choose the group to add them to. 8.Let’s try it by adding me to group called “School Personel”.

11 Adding Filters to your email. + The reason for this action is so that all emails from certain people or businesses will go to a certain location. This way your inbox doesn’t get overwhelmed with emails. -You have to remember to go to the Filter location to read those emails.

12 Adding Filters Cont… 1.First you must be in your inbox. 2. Click on the squares next to the emails that you want to be filtered. This will automatically recognize all emails of this kind and send it to this filter. 3. Click on “More Actions” button.

13 Adding a Filter Cont… 4.Click Filter messages like these. 5.Follow that directions once you have filtered a message.

14 Other Features Under the word More on the left handside. 1.Spam is where most of the advertisements and unwanted emails go. I do check these periodically so that none of the emails I was expecting went in there.

15 Other Features Cont… 2. Trash… This is where your deleted email go. So they are technically not deleted. You must empty your trash can. 3.To delete forever, you must click next to the email you want deleted and then click delete forever.
