2 Outline for Drawings and Templates Starting a Drawing Saving, Opening, Multiple Drawings, Closing Creating and Using Templates Establishing a Grid on the Screen Setting Increments for Cursor Movement Drawing Settings

3 Starting a Drawing Templates define parameters related to the drawing in advance Allows for a uniform starting point for all employees, for example Templates provide preset: Standard layouts with a border and title block Grid and snap settings Units and angle values Text standards and general notes Dimensioning styles Layer definitions Plot styles

4 Standard templates Crtl – N or file new Sheet size - > page setup American Society of Mechanical Engineers and American National Standards Institute specify sheet size standards Pg 49 Example -> Start a new drawing with Size A

5 Quick Start Start from scratch quickly with a preset template Tools -> Options File - > Template Settings Default Template file name for QNEW Type QNEW Open with no template File -> New -> Open with no template QSAVE or SAVEAS

6 Saving, Opening, Multiple Drawings, Closing Autosaving Options - > Open and Save -> Automatic Save Open existing drawings: OPEN, File-> Open Open a sample drawing Multiple Drawings -> Open three sample drawings Window Pulldown menu CLOSE, File->Close

7 Custom Templates Sheet size -> Go to Page Setup Student CD contains several templates that can be used. You can create your own template if no predefined template suits your needs. Use saveas command to save as a template *.dwt The name should relate some information about the template
