2 Introducing…. Juliet’s dilemma! dilemma = a situation where you must choose between two equally negative options loyal = being true and faithful to someone Juliet has a dilemma. She feels loyalty to her family and loved her cousin Tybalt greatly. She also feels loyalty to her new husband Romeo. Now, Juliet has been placed in a terrible situation – her husband killed her cousin! How should she react? Should she reject Romeo or should she forgive him? Should she stand by her man or by her family?

3 Conflict Is how the author builds tension for a character through  Interpersonal issues (man versus man)  Intrapersonal issues (man versus self) Which of these types of conflict did Shakespeare use to build tension and anxiety for Juliet?

4 Where should Juliet’s loyalties lie? Loyalty to Family Loyalty to Love  _______________________ Think about what Juliet owes her family and what her natural feeling are toward them.  _______________________ Consider the nature of her love for Romeo and whether or not he deserves all the blame.
