Leave Your Familiar But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come on you, and you will be My witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” Acts 1:8

1I wrote the first narrative, Theophilus, about all that Jesus began to do and teach 2until the day He was taken up, after He had given orders through the Holy Spirit to the apostles He had chosen. 3After He had suffered, He also presented Himself alive to them by many convincing proofs, appearing to them during 40 days and speaking about the kingdom of God. 4While He was together with them, He commanded them not to leave Jerusalem, but to wait for the Father’s promise. “This,” He said, “is what you heard from Me; 5for John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.” 6So when they had come together, they asked Him, “Lord, are You restoring the kingdom to Israel at this time? ” 7He said to them, “It is not for you to know times or periods that the Father has set by His own authority. 8But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come on you, and you will be My witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” Acts 1:1-8

Beyond the Comfort Zone Do you prefer the busy city life? Are you more inclined to life a quieter country lifestyle? Are you comfortable using mass transit? Do you know where your comfort zone is?

The Backstory Luke prepared his gospel for the purpose of telling who Jesus was prior to his ascension He tells his benefactor what Jesus did after the resurrection and before the ascension briefly Luke records what Jesus told the early apostles what to do first Then he gives them the global task People often miss the intermediate goals

The Content They are to be empowered by the Holy Spirit They are to be witnesses They are to start nearest their present location and radiate outward from that starting point Last week we talked about going home

The Outcome We will talk about the nations next week But what about our state and our nation? 75% of Floridians are not believers, that number is probably higher on our campuses. Gen Send is an effort to get college students to invest in taking the gospel to the key cities in our nation from the NAMB

The Call How can you use your degree for the kingdom? How will you invest your next summer? Will you strategically use your time in grad school to make a difference for the kingdom? Are you willing to serve during your 2016 spring break? Are you praying for our state and our nation?

The Call Are you willing to pray and ask God to change your comfort zone to include a different part of our state or our nation if that is where He wants to place you after you graduate?
