2 CD-Rom A CD-Rom is a compact disc used as a read- only memory device for a computer system. Read-only means you cannot make any changes.

3 Hard Copy Information from a computer that is physically printed out; a paper copy

4 Keyboard A device used to input information (letters and numbers) into a computer

5 Disk An object used to store information by making some type of change to a rotating disk (CD)

6 CPU CENTRAL PROCESSING UNIT; THE BRAINS OF THE COMPUTER WHERE MOST CALCULATIONS TAKE PLACE

7 Computer AN ELECTRONIC DEVICE FOR STORING AND PROCESSING DATA. SOME TYPES OF COMPUTERS INCLUDE: MAINFRAMES, DESKTOP AND LAPTOP COMPUTERS, TABLETS, AND SMARTPHONES.

8 Laser Printer A personal computer printer that uses non-impact (keys don’t strike the paper) photocopier technology.

9 Scanner A scanner is an input device that scans documents and images, which can be imported into a computer.

10 SOFT COPY A legible version of a piece of data that is not printed; an unprinted digital file

11 VIRUS PROTECTION SOFTWARE Software that is designed to prevent viruses, worms and Trojan horses from getting onto a computer as well as remove any malicious software code that has already infected a computer.

12 QWERTY The standard layout on English- language typewriters and keyboards, having q, w, e, r, t, and y as the first keys from the left on the top row of letters. This key arrangement was created by Christopher Latham around 1874

13 FUNCTION KEYS A button on a computer keyboard which a software can assign a particular function. For example, F1 is usually the “help” function.

14 DOUBLE SPACE Each line is followed by a line without words. There is one empty space between each line. To do this, hit “enter” twice at the end of a line.

15 URL Uniform Resource Locator – an address to a resource on the Internet.

18 SEARCH ENGINE A software system that is designed to search for information on the World Wide Web.

19 Monitor A DISPLAY SCREEN USED TO PROVIDE VISUAL OUTPUT FROM A COMPUTER
